Each and every bride, at some point during the wedding preparations, turns into a bridezilla. Okay, I will be more precise; she turns into a tyrant, a monster or a person you thought never existed! Why? Simply because she wants everything to go her way! Yes, it is and will always be about 'her' wedding day and not about his.
And I admit, I am a bridezilla too! So i have been ranting, fighting and so much more since the last six months. Believe me, the complaints and the cribbing do not cease. Of course, until one day you realize, your wedding is also about making your folks, him and friends happy. It is not limited to you only! Bah. I'd say happy realization...the sooner the better.
So apart from all that blah above, I want to or rather wish to [pretending to be a bride who has gained enlightenment, as the wedding date closes in] put down a few pointers which are indeed very helpful!
- Trousseau: It will be a nightmare if you don't plan this one! It took me a year to plan and chart it out, although I kept it to myself. Take your time to browse, visit many shops before you settle for your clothes.
- Window shopping: Many say its a waste of time but believe me, its the best way to find out whats in trend or what is available where, for how much and so much more.
- Lists: Oh, you need a lot of lists! Lists for clothes - variety, colours, number of clothes that will make your trousseau...phew!
- Visit wedding exhibitions: Yeah, lame I know! Most of the times these exhibitions are super expensive and heavily crowded. But a bride-to-be must check out at least one of them! They have tonnes of stuff see! [And if you are looking for discounts, its the best time to make contacts and gets stuff cheaper!]
- Shoes: This is one is my favourite! Like my friend Julia once said that like me, her mum has never met a pair of shoes she doesn't like, most brides will feel the same. But then thats not possible. So you need to make another list and note down the ones you need!
- Get a good tailor: Whatever would I do, had I not met my designer and my regular tailor? I would have cried eyes out! Seriously, a good tailor is a bride's best friend! And wedding being the time when we splurge, its best if we go to a good tailor for regular stuff. Designers are important too. Labels are expensive but small boutique owners are a boon to us! [If the tailor/designer is new, then you need to get a simple dress/blouse/pant stitched to check out the result before you proceed.]
- Accessories; another important one! Even the simplest of girls would indulge in some really pretty bangles/costume jewelry and all that. I suggest buy after you have all your clothes in. Or do it simultaneously.
- Buy everything at least a month or two prior to the wedding date. Believe me, the shopping never ends! Something or the other always remains. So please buy the important stuff in advance. Have them stitched/altered/packed well in time so that you can sit and back relax!
- I was never the one for beauty treatments. But do consult a local beautician [popular/reliable/reasonable] for beauty treatments. Pamper yourself from at least a month before.
- Try to be positive always. There will always be something or someone you do not like, but cursing them, getting stressed won't help. So leave them be. You concentrate on yourself, your groom and your wedding day.
