So I am meeting all sorts of people who are going to help me be the beautiful bride. Lol. Last Sunday I met the make-up artist. We got to know her through some family and so we visited her home-cum-office. Once there, we  were greeted by scores of stray strands of hair. No she ain't shedding hair...just conducting her class. About six enthusiastic women worked diligently to get some hairstyle right. Don't ask names...because I am not much into hairstyling and all.

A few minutes into the visit, we were escorted to this room that seemed like her parlor. She handed me a thick album to browse through...it contained all the bridal makeup models. The room had many pictures of her dressing brides and so on. So I liked what I saw. It was nice...simple and all that.

But I am not sure of how much I want of this. It is not the expense that has brought me to the decision [its freaking expensive...the entire thing will come up to 30k or so!]. The thing is, I hardly know about makeup. I own a flew glosses, a compact and Kohl, thats it. I have never applied rouge...don't even know how to! I used to have some foundation but I have made a mess of it in the past [best not to go down that lane!].

I don't even want to wear the heavy maang-tikka and all [the traditional/ornamental head gear Indian brides wear] but mom was like, you should...it would look nice. Bah. I think its going to be a mess. I will be tired with all this going on.

I don't know how other brides feel. But I have this nagging feeling that I should have eloped else had a court marriage and be done with it. At the end of the day, we - Him and I, want to be together, so I guess that is all that matters. But thats not happening. My ma and pa, his mom, have scores of things planned. Will keep you posted on these...

  1. Thats what I too honestly worry about, Nikita. Am 23 and I'm planning to tie the knot in sometime - the near future... Parents expensive binges scare me the most...Honestly, I'd rather spend that money in an old age home or a children home... trust me, that's more me ... not pomp, nor grandeur. Can understand your musings!

  2. Normally, I'm the farthest thing away from hair-makeup-clothes-shoes that you can get. Except when it comes to weddings or formal events. Then I love to dress up.

I loved everything about my wedding day, even the fact that my sister had to literally sew my veil headpiece into my hair with thread in order to keep it in place for the day (my hair is very, very fine and nothing will stay put.)

You should love what you're going to wear on your big day, because it always ends up to be a bit of a physical endurance thing, and if you're going to do it, it's a lot easier if you're head over heels for your wedding attire, as well as for your new husband.

  4. My daughter who got married last may also hated all the things regarding getting all dressed up for her wedding. Even,we as her parents were not very eager for all this hyper excitement that people show for the wedding, but finally we all had to do it right according to the tradition.
On the wedding day our daughter looked very pretty with all jewellary , the brand new sarees etc, etc, and loved every compliments that came her way. You see it was finally her "DAY". And she loved every bit of it , although she went through each and every ceremony cribbing.
She would hardly ever wear the sarees bought for her wedding ( although we kept it as simple as possible), and may not wear all the jewellary also.
But she would look back with fondness at her wedding day many years later and would maybe in a position to convince her daughter too to deck up like she herself did years ago.
Or maybe our outlook towards this total wastage of money towards such events may bring about the change we wanted to bring about in our times.
Anyway, finally the girl and the boy must be happy that is all we parents wish, all else is secondary.
